Brad Johnson it is January the 15th 2020
00:05
and an interesting event happened but
00:08
not unprecedented there seems to be a
00:10
massive shake-up with the Russian
00:12
government and you know I haven’t looked
00:14
at anything on it I mean I seen a couple
00:17
of headlines go by but the only thing is
00:19
I can think of is it reminds me a little
00:21
of when Putin played games with Medvedev
00:24
some years ago in order to somehow
00:27
maneuver himself and hang on to power is
00:30
this any different or are we seeing
00:33
something new here no this is this is
00:36
virtually the same thing and I don’t
00:38
view this is as something hugely
00:41
significant because as you say there is
00:43
specific precedent for it so just very
00:46
briefly what happened is earlier today
00:49
by our time here on the East Coast the
00:51
United States afternoon for Russia they
00:54
basically did a reshuffle and Medvedev
00:57
who’s the Prime Minister and the cabinet
01:00
were dissolved if you will and so what’s
01:05
happening now what what what all of this
01:07
means is that according to the
01:11
Constitution and under which they
01:13
operate which Putin can change probably
01:15
if he wanted to
01:16
but his term as president is coming to
01:20
an end now it started out with him being
01:22
Prime Minister and that’s where he
01:23
actually took power in Russia so what he
01:26
did then was change and the the position
01:29
of president was quite weak and the
01:31
position of Prime Minister was strong so
01:33
when he came to the end of his term as
01:35
Prime Minister
01:36
what he did was redo everything revamp
01:39
it and made the position of president
01:41
and strong and the president of the
01:43
position of Prime Minister weak so he
01:46
Medvedev is his man you know don’t be
01:48
confused by anything on this men that is
01:50
met that if the Prime Minister who
01:52
resigned today is Putin’s man and all
01:56
the way and so he rewrote the the
01:59
positions made president strong put
02:01
Medvedev in his prime minister who had
02:03
previously been president so they
02:05
basically switched jobs and Putin
02:08
continues to wield all the power and
02:10
make no mistake I mean he tracks down on
02:12
people all over the world particularly
02:14
in London
02:15
where he just he kills them that will
02:16
you know if there any sort of political
02:18
competition for him so he’s got absolute
02:22
hold on power and he’s not going to lose
02:24
it that’s not going to change so what’s
02:26
happened now is that his term as
02:28
president is coming to an end and he’s
02:30
not supposed to be able to be president
02:31
again so what’s he doing what’s he
02:34
what he’s doing is revamping there’s
02:36
this state committee that he is now
02:41
revamping everything rewriting all of
02:43
this stuff and he’s already the head of
02:47
that committee and so he’s rewriting it
02:49
to place the power in the hands of it so
02:52
that now the president and prime
02:53
minister are going to be positions that
02:56
are not don’t have the power that they
02:59
have had while he filled those slots
03:01
filled those positions so now Medvedev
03:04
has come under some critic critiques
03:06
back home and there’s been some rioting
03:09
and different problems and he’s
03:11
basically being blamed because
03:13
supposedly Putin was doing the foreign
03:15
policy and he was doing the domestic
03:17
economics now some of that is real the
03:19
the real problem with the economy in
03:21
Russia is that it’s a you know it’s just
03:23
a clip photography I guess it’s the term
03:25
everyone likes to throw around but but
03:27
Putin is large and in charge and if
03:29
you’re doing business in Russia a
03:30
percentage of that is moving up the line
03:32
and Putin’s getting his cut so that’s
03:34
why he’s a multi-billionaire now you
03:36
know he didn’t earn it
03:37
selling breakfast cereal or inventing a
03:40
computer chip or anything like that he
03:42
earned it the old-fashioned way he stole
03:44
it and that’s so that’s what we have in
03:46
in Russia and so he’s rewriting the
03:49
whole thing just to maintain absolute
03:51
control over power Medvedev is maybe
03:53
thrown under the bus making not based on
03:55
the economic stuff but he’s a trusted
03:57
lieutenant so I wouldn’t I would not
03:59
expect him to go very far so he may be
04:02
thrown out as Prime Minister but he’ll
04:04
then remain on that state committee the
04:07
state steering committee or whatever
04:08
they call it and that’s going to be a
04:11
far more powerful position once this
04:12
rewrite is all done so that’s what what
04:16
Putin is up to it’s just he’s rewriting
04:19
everything to maintain power and part of
04:20
what he had to do was get rid of the
04:22
cabinet the Prime Minister and the
04:23
cabinet in order to rewrite all of this
04:25
so it’s
04:27
not a national emergency but uh you know
04:29
a manufactured problem that now has to
04:33
be resolved put it that way now in an
04:35
interesting little side aspect of this
04:37
as well is when did this take place
04:39
we’ve known for quite a little while
04:41
that the that President Trump that the
04:46
articles of impeachment were going to be
04:48
formalized today and passed to the
04:51
Senate but at any rate the whole news
04:53
cycle today in the United States at
04:55
least and and to some degree much of the
04:58
West has been completely consumed by
05:01
these articles of impeachment that the
05:03
house has voted on today to pass over to
05:06
the Senate that vote was taking place
05:07
everyone was doing their rah-rah
05:09
speeches the Republicans were pointing
05:11
out you know what a goofball idiocy this
05:14
was in the and the Democrats all of it
05:17
was saying we have to do it to save the
05:18
Republic and Nancy Pelosi was standing
05:22
in front of a flag it was yes theatrical
05:24
nonsense yet any race you recognize it I
05:28
don’t sure she knew otherwise I didn’t
05:31
see you’re staring at it I think she was
05:32
kind of blinking at it wondering it for
05:34
sure what it was and it ain’t great so I
05:36
don’t think that this is accident now of
05:39
course me being an old intelligence ops
05:41
guy I don’t like coincidence and this is
05:43
one of those things where I don’t care
05:45
for this coincidence
05:46
I think Putin planned it out carefully
05:48
knowing that he can come out with this
05:50
news today and nobody would care I
05:53
haven’t seen any mainstream television
05:55
reporting on the Putin thing yet and now
05:59
I’m sure it will hit tonight and there’s
06:00
probably mentioned a couple of times but
06:02
all of the news cycle because the
06:03
mainstream media hates Trump for them
06:07
the news is that these article of
06:09
impeachment the articles of impeachment
06:11
were voted on in passed now it was party
06:14
line things so you know it’s not
06:16
significant it’s going to go nowhere in
06:17
the Senate it’s they’ll do some sort of
06:20
trial or something but it’s essentially
06:21
dead on arrival and it’s all political
06:23
theatrics from this point on noting that
06:25
it’s been anything different up to now
06:27
it’s all it’s been that all along so but
06:29
I think Putin time this smartly I think
06:34
he took a look at it and said well the
06:35
press in the United States hates Trump
06:37
they’re going to vote on the impart
06:39
articles of impeachment today so they’re
06:40
going to be consumed with that this is
06:42
the perfect time for me to do this and
06:44
get zero notice and criticism if he did
06:47
it in a time where there was very little
06:49
news coverage on other things then he
06:51
would probably get ripped to shreds for
06:52
doing this because it’s clear that this
06:54
is this is this is not a grab for power
06:57
but this is a maintaining iron fist grip
07:00
on power and what he’s doing is just
07:02
manipulating the political situation in
07:04
the rules laws and constitution of
07:07
Russia to just rewrite the jobs every
07:10
time he’s forced to move from prime
07:11
minister to president now from president
07:14
to this committee so that’s all that’s
07:15
happening and that’s not going to change
07:17
I don’t think you’re gonna get Putin out
07:19
of office any other way than feet-first
07:22
or he just gets old and weak and
07:24
physically the in decline that he could
07:26
no longer do it and at that point maybe
07:28
but I it’s it’s he’s got the he’s got
07:32
the power over there and he’s gonna keep
07:34
it and that’s all this is nothing more
07:36
thank you very much Fred Johnson I gotta
07:39
say as as undemocratic and awful as that
07:43
is I think I’d still rather
07:45
injure what’s coming in Russia than what
07:48
air Dhawan did with his fake coup and in
07:52
Turkey and subsequent murders and
07:54
arrests so absolutely right
07:58
it’s a horrible comparison but still
08:01
it’s still better at least what he used
08:03
to it was better than that thank you
08:05
very much all right thanks everybody can
