Americans for Intelligence Reform

Brad Johnson, President, and retired CIA Senior Officer and Chief of Staff. Insight into current events from an intelligence angle.

Wall Street Journal serves up a Nothing Burger against Trump

In the never ending quest to tie Trump to foreign campaign help, the WSJ unearthed an accusatory factoid. Revolving around perfectly legal campaign contributions from the efforts of volunteers on his finance committee, it’s just another ploy to discredit him. Some individual Chinese US citizens gave $500,000 and “poof” – Trump now works for the Chinese. Brad Johnson, former Senior CIA Operative and President of Americans for Intelligence Reform, explains why the WSJ presented a “Nothing Burger” for public consumption.

Brad Johnson July 2 of 2020
00:03
and there’s now I think the latest enemy
00:07
propaganda in US media is claiming that
00:12
Trump received a large donation to his
00:16
campaign from a source that would
00:18
certainly not appear to have benefited
00:20
by it what’s the story on that yeah and
00:24
this is the Wall Street Journal this is
00:25
kind of a the same pattern of
00:29
manipulation of information that we’re
00:31
seeing come out of the left all up
00:33
newspapers like the Times and Wall
00:36
Street Journal and and Washington Post
00:39
and these sorts of things Wall Street
00:41
does have some conservatives in the
00:43
editorial but they spend most of their
00:45
time in liberal land for their reporting
00:47
it’s certainly not a conservative
00:48
newspaper like it was at one point in
00:51
the past so Wall Street reports that
00:53
there was there are individuals and
00:55
groups as how they put it but it
00:57
basically leads back to three people to
01:00
our Chinese descent but US citizens the
01:04
third was same Chinese descent but a
01:07
u.s. resident so he did have status here
01:11
who combined provided about half a
01:15
million dollars to the Trump campaign
01:16
and what the Wall Street’s claiming is
01:19
is they did this in order to gain access
01:21
to the to the Trump campaign now just so
01:25
everybody knows for these campaigns and
01:27
things there’s a lot of people that are
01:29
then hangers-on is too much of a
01:32
negative connotation but there are
01:33
people that are supportive of the
01:35
president and the president has many
01:37
committees and things like that
01:38
everybody does this that are related to
01:41
the campaign like for example the
01:43
presidential finance committee now that
01:46
is a bunch of people they don’t work for
01:48
the president they but they want to help
01:50
the president get elected and so on the
01:53
financial committee what they do is they
01:55
all go in and they make phone calls to
01:56
their friends and go hey come on in and
01:58
give some money to the you know the
02:00
president’s campaign we need to get him
02:01
reelected so there’s a lot of committees
02:03
like that where people will come in who
02:05
are big donors and say what’s important
02:07
to them
02:08
there you know they go to these advisory
02:11
committee meetings and these are you
02:15
know they’re not significant in that
02:17
they have great influence over the
02:19
president United States these are all
02:21
parts of campaign activities and those
02:23
people that are large donors you you
02:26
want them to feel that they’re part of
02:28
the organization in the sense that they
02:29
have some input and that’s what these
02:32
events are so these donors apparently at
02:35
least one of them was invited to an
02:37
event like that where they can go the
02:39
president’s not there he doesn’t meet
02:41
them but he gets to talk and to the you
02:44
know somebody some representative out of
02:46
the campaign and they express their
02:48
views on what’s important in the world
02:49
not important in the world that sort of
02:51
thing so standard operating procedures
02:53
that’s how campaigns do business that’s
02:55
all part of it and so the fact that
02:59
these guys gave money they were entitled
03:01
to make donations the donations weren’t
03:03
illegal there’s nothing wrong with any
03:05
of this this is standard now procedures
03:08
for the left they find some little
03:10
nugget like this and go you know this is
03:12
proof that President Trump is now
03:14
working for not only the Russians but
03:16
the Chinese they bother away in complete
03:19
nonsense and if there was any sort of
03:21
truth or even-handedness or journalism
03:25
taking place it’s only here and never on
03:28
on mainstream media anymore and just
03:30
think back to Clinton Clinton in those
03:34
days actually had representatives of the
03:37
Chinese Communist Party in California
03:40
making big donations millions of dollars
03:43
into his campaign over which people were
03:46
indicted and indicted after he was
03:50
president so I mean it was absolute
03:52
conclusive some of those guys fled the
03:55
country to go back to China to hide from
03:57
us justice and never to be heard from
03:58
again and there’s a guy Chinese guy
04:01
thinks still sitting in jail today out
04:02
of all of this he may be out by now but
04:04
you know absolute proof criminal
04:08
convictions that the Clinton campaign
04:11
was involved in here this is nothing
04:14
weird or nothing it’s the same old stuff
04:17
as I’ve said on other occasions this is
04:19
the absolute nonsense that the left has
04:23
has sunk to that they just have this
04:26
unending criticism of President Trump
04:29
and they have to since there’s no real
04:30
reasons to do it they have to come up
04:33
with something and this is exactly that
04:35
it’s just another occasion where they’ve
04:38
come up with nonsense that they can
04:40
twist and manipulate and only present
04:42
part of the truth in order to criticize
04:45
President Trump and it’s an unfortunate
04:47
thing where the Wall Street Journal is
04:49
no longer the newspaper that it was I
04:51
hate to see this thing come out of there
04:53
I hope some of the people that that
04:55
write the op-eds and things for The Wall
04:59
Street Journal will fight back a little
05:00
bit on this and point out some of the
05:02
inaccuracies and point out some of the
05:04
history of how the Chinese have
05:06
supported Democratic campaigns and how
05:09
this is not like that but time will tell
05:12
there are some conservatives as I said
05:13
that do you speak out in the Wall Street
05:15
in the commentaries and the op-eds
05:18
and by the way I’ve submitted to the
05:20
Wall Street Journal they don’t like my
05:21
stuff so you know they’re not willing to
05:24
put things like that so although I
05:27
probably don’t write to the skill level
05:29
of a lot of the guys that they have down
05:30
there it’s still one of those things
05:32
where they’re just not interested in
05:33
reporting old stories anymore you just
05:34
don’t see it they pick they’re a little
05:36
bit instead of convenient for them and
05:38
that’s what they go with so a pity but
05:39
this is another nothing burger it’s not
05:41
going to go anywhere it’s all going to
05:43
fizzle out it’s going to be in the in
05:45
the reporting for three or four days but
05:47
that’s the operating tempo that they’re
05:49
working at every three or four or five
05:51
days Democrats want to come out with
05:53
something doesn’t matter what it is to
05:55
the light sheet steel to get some little
05:56
bit that they can criticize Trump with
05:58
and that’s the operating tempo that
06:00
they’re working at that they’re going to
06:01
try to maintain through November well I
06:04
understand that they’re their new motto
06:07
is hey at least we’re not CNN thank you
06:10
very much Fred all right thank you
06:21
you
