Big Winners and Losers. So Kevin McCarthy has now been elected speaker of the House on the Republican side. Yay. Not a huge fan of McCarthy, as I’ve said many times through the years, even back during the presidency of Donald Trump. However, I think a couple of things that are important, we’ve touched on it a little bit in previous BRAD⚡CASTS is that the concessions that he made and that’s where the bread is buttered, in my opinion. There were some major victories there. One of the things in those rules, if it gets passed and those rule changes, is that it requires a three fifths majority to raise taxes. If that happens, that is an amazing thing. There won’t be enough Democrats and Republican defectors to get taxes passed that way. So that is a very important, very big deal. That’s going to change how budget will work on a lot of stuff. So that’s super, super, super important.
The fact that McCarthy was forced to make that concession is a big deal. He did not want to do that. The Rhino Republicans don’t care about taxes, so they’re in bed with the Democrats as far as raising taxes. So this is a big deal. This is a major victory for the conservative branch. Out of it. There were six votes in the final vote that they basically abstained and they voted present, and that’s kind of a thumb in the eye of Kevin McCarthy, but it’s not that big a deal. That’s politics as usual. I don’t think it’s interesting for us to analyze who did it and why and so on. They’re more outspokenly, led by Matt Gates, who gats, I guess is the correct pronunciation, who was. Was more vocally anti McCarthy than most of the others. Again – Big Winners and Losers.
So it’s kind of like he was a little bit of that leader of the little, little section, but, you know, good for him, being able to stand up. It’s about time Republicans start to at least a few of them start to stand up and do anything at all, which we haven’t seen come out of the Republican Party for decades. So nice to see at least a minority of them do something about it.
But one of the other things that’s real important is and we saw this, Nancy Pelosi would constantly, like, sneak in bills, like a 400 page bill, and she’d give everybody 3 hours to look at it before they had to vote on it. So they would just all pass it, you know, and nobody knew what was in it. You know the famous quote from Nancy Pelosi that’s like, you know, oh, well, if you want to see what’s in the bill, you have to pass it first, you know, then you’ll find out. That woman, I really think she’s a scheming, conniving candidate. A street smart person, but I think she’s dumb in a rock. I mean, what a stupid thing to have said. And she talks like that all the time. Speaking of Big Winners and Losers. Anyway, a side note…
One of the other things that’s important out of this is it requires 72 hours notice on bills. McCarthy didn’t like that either. I guarantee you. The rhinos don’t like that sort of stuff, because if they have if everybody has 72 hours to analyze these bills, a lot of stuff is going to come out of it. The fat, the pork, the just travesties that they slip into these bills. All that’s going to start to get reported on, and more people will have time to publicly come out and say, I cannot vote for this bill because of bang, bang, bang, bang. There’s these six things in there that are trash. Get them out and I’ll vote for it.
There’ll be time for people to do things like that, and that puts pressure on the other congressmen and women as well, because then their constituents start going to him and saying, well, wait a minute, you know, that guy’s not voting for him for those six things. Why are you voting for that? You know, do you don’t believe in that, do you? And so it’s something that is going to help accountability. These seem trivial, but I think they’re actually pretty important. And I think that those are good steps forward for the small but increasingly vocal minority within the Republican Party of conservatives. So fairly big deal.
Also, I would have to say, I think out of all of this stuff we have a couple of winners and losers. I think McCarthy won the vote but I think he was actually one of the big losers. If you go through and look at the rule changes and other people have noted this it’s not something I spotted uniquely but if you look at how the changes were in the rule it greatly decreases the power of the speaker and increases the power or influence of the rank and file. For example, any rank and file now, Congressman can call for a vote. Vote. Should they lose confidence in the speaker, they can call for a vote. And if the speaker gets too wild and he can get in that group of 20 again, refuses to vote for him, it’s going to be another battle just like this was.
And to get it back, he’s going to have to go make all those concessions again. So that is actually a pretty big deal. I think also, too, Jim Jordan came out of it looking pretty good. I would say he is a winner. Matt Gaetz, I think, also probably came out of this a winner. He I’m not saying he wasn’t politically motivated. I think there was political motivation in there. He wanted his name out in public. You know, all Congressmen know that they need to get reelected every two years, but I think he also was standing on some principle in there, as well as the other people that were doing were not willing to vote. Excuse me for McCarthy. So I think it’s actually an interesting step forward.
I hope that those guys win their next re election big, because that is a signal to other politicians. Politicians pay attention to that who gets donations and who wins election elections big based on what platform. That is what politicians pay attention to. They don’t care about doing what’s right anymore. That’s not even the vast majority rhinos don’t care about what’s doing right. Doing right what’s is doing right. And Democrats are, I would say, kind of gone over to the site of darkness. They’ll sell their mother’s soul if it gets an extra vote with donations. So it’s nice to have this sort of change in there.
Big Winners and Losers. But I would say those Jim Jordan winner, Gaetz, winner, McCarthy loser, and Biden just really is going to find a difficult time because what they want to do is inflate the budget beyond recognition. So and that’s coming up soon. Let me add, too, there’s trillions of dollars of debt that comes due in 2023. Last I looked, I believe that it’s $17 trillion in debt comes due during 2023. All that was financed back in, you know, in in the low interest rate dates, all of that is below 2% money. You know, 1.5678% money. And now all that has to be refinanced as it comes up. That’s all going to be above 4% money. So the economy and, you know, all these people, oh, inflation is over.
I mean, inflation is not over. It’s going to be worse this year than it was in 2022, if nothing else, because of this debt. So – American people – we are ultimately the Big Winners and Losers. Maybe that will be helped a little bit by the fact that they’re not going to be able to go crazy raising taxes if they can get these rules passed in the House now, for budget 3 fifth passing for tax increases and stuff like that. They’re going to have to really be selective on what taxes they try to raise with that as a vote, because they’re going to need a lot of Republican votes. Out of that, plus every Democrat vote. So it’ll be interesting to see how that goes. And that is a big step forward. So I’m hoping that that’s going to help lessen the impact of inflation and so on, because they got to print money like crazy to pay all these bills and get financing and stuff for the debt. 17 trillion is not a tiny amount.
I mean, these amounts get so huge, it’s hard to conceptualize just how much money that is. But imagine that on your credit card. Even at 4% or four and a half percent, I’m not sure that the entire budget of the United States covers just the debt on that anymore. Which, by the way, that is really kind of where we hit the end. If we don’t make enough money in our budget just to cover paying the debt, then what do we do? And that’s where the communists, the leftist, socialist, progressive, liberals, they say, Go ahead and do that. That’s basically their take on it. And just don’t worry about any of that stuff. It doesn’t matter. And the reason they kind of looked. At it is because they’ll just use government powers to just like scarf up whatever they need and just say, okay, if I were not paying anymore, whatever.
I mean, everybody’s heard of the communist government’s nationalizing this or that or the other or the banking system. It gives them more power. So destroying the economy gives more power to government. And so that’s why it’s not a complex thing to understand. That’s why the Democrats rats who are communists, socialists, progressive, liberals, that’s all one thing. That’s why they’re the way they are and that’s why they’re willing to destroy the economy. And I wish Republican rhinos would actually take that into account a little bit more often than they do. So anyway, an interesting turn of events and I think Jordan is going to be an important factor ah, even more than DeSantis coming up in two years.
This is what this topic is about – Big Winners and Losers. I think he’ll be a bigger factor than DeSantis. But time will time will tell. He is somebody that we. Mentioned before as a potential VP for Trump, perhaps, but he would be a good vice presidential candidate for anybody. I don’t think he’s positioning himself to run as candidate, but he would certainly be my top contender from Ohio and, you know, solid with the conservatives. And I think he if Trump were to pick him and win, he would make one hell of a vice president. I really do. And then in four years run for president. I think he’d win and win big. So we’ll see. That’s not a prediction. That’s just crucial thinking. All right.
